Teacher:
Andy Stone
Andy teaches mathematics from Year 7 to Year 10.
What we do
Mathematics education is designed to instill in students a love of learning.
For students to be passionate, reflective and unceasing in their pursuit of knowledge and betterment.

What we are getting up to
In maths this year at PVIS we will be using the Australian Curriculum Learning outcomes (i.e. what we will be able to do at the end of the year) and content descriptors (what we will cover to meet the learning outcomes). These are available at http://www.australiancurriculum.edu.au/mathematics/curriculum/f-10?layout=1
- Understanding where students build a robust knowledge of adaptable and transferable mathematical concepts.
- Fluency where Students develop skills in choosing appropriate procedures; carrying out procedures flexibly, accurately, efficiently and appropriately; and recalling factual knowledge and concepts readily.
- Problem-solving where students develop the ability to make choices, interpret, formulate, model and investigate problem situations, and communicate solutions effectively.
- Reasoning where students develop an increasingly sophisticated capacity for logical thought and actions, such as analysing, proving, evaluating, explaining, inferring, justifying and generalising.
Year 7: We will start with an investigation into probability before looking at algebra, graphing on the Cartesian plane and data collection.
Year 8: We are currently looking at algebra, before focusing on a specific application, linear relationships. To finish the term we will look at data collection, representation and analysis.
Year 9: After a review of algebra, we will spend time exploring trigonometry and linear and non-linear relationships.
Year 10: We are currently exploring linear relationships, soon to move into non-linear relationships and inequalities. WE will finish the term looking at geometrical proofs.
